２０１０年、首都大学東京と東京都による都市課題解決のための共同研究・リーディングプロジェクトがスタートを切った。これは単に東京だけの問題ではなく、日本が抱える成熟都市の環境、少子化、など都市が抱える問題をどう解決するかという研究プロジェクトである。我々の担当は膨大にふくれあがった建築ストックの問題の解決である。今日まで巨額の資金をつぎ込んできた優良な建築ストックを再生活用するための研究である。そのような中、東京都住宅供給公社（ＪＫＫ東京）と共同研究の連結協定を締結し、ＪＫＫ東京が所有する「烏山８号棟」を実際に再生するプロジェクトがスタートした。ＪＫＫ東京からは２０１１年、２０１２年と２年間にわたり２名の客員研究員を招き、大学において基礎調査から基本設計、実施設計の監修にあたった。また、この間、首都大学東京では塾生を募集し、社会人の教育も試み技術の普及も試みた。２０１３年度には実際に工事がスタートし、１年を経過してこのプロジェクトは完成した。このことは、単にＪＫＫ東京にとどまらず、日本全国にある団地や公共集合住宅の再生に向けた大きな第一歩を踏み出したのではないかと考えている。

In 2010, Tokyo Metropolitan University and Tokyo Metropolitan Government has embarked on new collaborative and leading project to solve the critical issues of the city.The project aims to think how to solve not only Tokyo's issue but also issues that every mature city in Japan has such as environmental problem and declining birthrate. Our mission at this leading project is solving the issue of building stock. In shortly, we study how to reuse the worthy building stock that the government has been pouring a large amount of fund. When we in that situation, we had concluded a partnership agreement with Tokyo Metropolitan Housing Supply Corporation (JKK Tokyo) and then we started to revive one of JKK Tokyo's possession Karasuyama housing complex building No.8 for real. For reviving that housing complex building, we invited two researchers in 2 yearlong from 2011 to 2012 and conducted together its basic research, design development and execution design in our university. At the same time, the university gathered some descendants from the society to cultivate people and spread the technology to revive a building. 

The reviving project completed one year later its construction started in 2013. This fruit of our reviving project will be the first step of the building revival not only for JKK Tokyo but also the revival of housing complexes and public housings in everywhere Japan.
